Brag-Worthy Bargains and BPA

Ever since our class field trip to the psychology department at a local college, I've been wary of BPA. The students were conducting tests on rats whose mothers were exposed to current FDA approved "safe" levels of BPA, and showed signs of hyperactivity, memory loss, and attention deficits. This was a student's senior project, and even though it wasn't a large scale operation, the results alone were enough to encourage me to make an effort to reduce my BPA exposure. I've bought BPA-free plastic Tupperware ($1 a set a Big Lots) and a nice set of 3 glass containers with rubber lids for $8.00 at Ross. Love them! They're the perfect size for lunch.

The BPA scare is enough to make me rethink what chemicals I expose myself too. A big source is the beauty products I use. I'm trying to switch to more natural products.....without spending a fortune. Thank heaven for rebates!

So far I've scored Physician's Formula Jumbo Lash 100% Natural Organic Wear Mascara at Target with a try me free label (reg $8.74). I also found Renpure Organics Conditioning Treatment (reg. $5.74) with a try me free label at Walmart. Pretty sweet!

I also tried out Garnier Fructis's Pure Clean line of 98% Naturally Derived Styling Products with my $1/1 coupon. So far I give the gel and cream a thumbs up! They offer really good hold, even for my ornery curls. Unfortunately, I didn't realize Target has the line for a dollar less ($3.48 each) so I could have saved two more dollars by buying there over Walmart ($4.48 each). :( Goes to show the importance of shopping around first! Next time I run out I know where to go I guess....

Til the next shopping adventure.
